This course is aimed at students who enjoy the arts and would like to explore concepts of freedom and emancipation as depicted and expressed in art specifically. The session will focus on various ideas of freedom showing how diverse artists have communicated the notion in paintings, sculptures and drawings. We will look at various works of visual art, reflect on interpretations and identify artistic tools. Students are encouraged to share their ideas and views on the artworks, engaging in rich discussions around themes of liberation.
Experienced lecturer with an M.A (Magister Artium) in English and American Literary and Cultural Studies (Anglistik & Amerikanistik) and a Master's degree in Culture Diaspora Ethnicity, Birkbeck University, London. I have a long-standing interest in emancipatory concepts and movements across cultures, the arts and media, the knowledge and awareness thereof, I have adeptly applied both in my teaching and research in Frankfurt a. Main, Berlin and London.
